Repair of reinforced PVC membrane: seams rewelded, the membrane cut out around fittings and new patches welded in, flanges reinstalled — and an honest word about when a repair is enough.
A PVC membrane fails at a seam, at a fitting, or at a wrinkle. A repair goes to those places: the seam is rewelded, the membrane around a fitting is cut out and a new patch welded in, the flange is reinstalled, the wrinkle is taken out.
The pool we did this on in the summer of 2025 had been finished in 2023, and the membrane was poorly installed. Two attempts had already been made to repair it before we were called, and the leak remained. It was leaking badly. The repairs took us six days — and the leaks stopped.
Water does not forgive a detail done just “okay”. That is true on a repair as much as on a new pool, and it is why we do the work ourselves.

Patches
The membrane around a failed fitting is cut out and a new piece welded in its place, before the flange goes back on.
Flanges reinstalled
Every drain, return, light and skimmer is sealed with a flange. On a repair they are taken off, the membrane made good, and all of them put back.
Wrinkles removed
A wrinkle in a membrane is a place water can get behind. They are taken out — on the pool above we removed several.

Our second pool in Canada
Below is our second pool in Canada, although it could also be considered roughly our tenth. We still count it as our second. The pool was originally completed in 2023, but the membrane was poorly installed. Before we were called, two attempts had already been made to repair it, but the leak remained. In the summer of 2025, we repaired it. It was leaking badly. The repairs took us six days. We rewelded almost all the seams, removed some wrinkles, cut out the membrane around the fittings, welded in new patches and reinstalled all the flanges. The leaks stopped.
The owners trusted us and invited us back the following season to redo the entire pool with a new membrane. They also corrected all the issues beneath the membrane before we started. Now the pool has a new look — and no leaks, of course.
Sometimes a repair is the whole answer. Sometimes it buys a season while the pool is prepared to be redone. Which one it is depends on the pool — and it is decided after we have seen it.
