Commercial and public pools

Membrane forcommercial pools

Lane pools, condo and resort pools, thermal spas and water parks lined in reinforced PVC membrane, with every marking and step edge welded in on site by the two of us.

What Ontario's pool rule asks of the surface

A public pool in Ontario is run under Ontario Regulation 565, Public Pools. Three of its lines are about the very surface we weld.

Submerged surfacesWhite or light in colour, except markings for safety or competition purposes.

The floor and walls go in a light membrane. Lane lines, targets and safety marks are cut from a dark membrane and welded into it.

Steps into a public spaA handrail, a non-slip surface on the treads, and a band of contrasting colour along the edge of each step.

An anti-slip membrane strip is welded onto every tread and wrapped over its edge, so the step and its marking are one welded piece.

Deck and wallsKept sanitary and free from potential hazards.

A membrane surface has no grout lines and no joints left open: the sheets are hot-air welded seam by seam, and every drain and return is sealed with a flange.

The wording above is from the regulation itself, O. Reg. 565 on Ontario e-Laws. The step rule is its section 25. The deck around a pool can be done in the same material too; our pool decks in membrane include textured strips laid beside the water.

A lane pool, seen from above

Every line in this drawing is a separate piece of membrane in a second colour, welded flat into the floor or the wall.

  • The light membrane of the floor and walls. The colour is chosen per project from the sample books on our Membranes page.
  • Lane lines and their T ends, welded into the floor. On our own jobs they are black on white or on blue.
  • Targets on the end walls and on the floor, welded in the same way.
  • Steps with a dark anti-slip edge on each tread.

Commercial pools we have lined

The pool at the top of this page is the 1,200 m² recreational pool that was our last project in Russia, the largest recreational swimming pool there. All of its membrane work was done by the two of us, and Damir installed 2,500 fittings and flanges in it. Every one of those is a place where the membrane is cut, sealed and has to stay sealed under a full pool and a full hall.

Over our twelve years we have also lined indoor pools in resorts, fitness centres and condominium buildings, public outdoor pools and wading pools. On one condominium pool the new bright blue membrane went in with the floor targets welded into it. The photographs below and the full set on our work are all our own jobs.

A thermal spa that had an opening date

Our second-to-last pool before Canada was a thermal spa that was scheduled to open by New Year's. It opened on time.

The shell

Winter on site

Snow on the deck, sheets of insulation stacked beside the pool, water going in while the last details were finished.

43days in a row we worked on that spa without a day off. All of the membrane work, fittings and flanges included, was done by the two of us. The story is on our About page.

Bringing us into a commercial project

In most cases we work as subcontractors for pool companies, and several of them have already invited us back for multiple projects. On a commercial job that means we come in for the membrane: the underlay, the sheets welded on site, the steps and markings by hand, and every fitting sealed with a flange. The six steps are on our membrane installation page. If a pool you manage is already lined and losing water at a seam or a fitting, the work on our membrane repair page is where we start.

What to send us

  • Where the pool is and what kind of facility it serves.
  • Drawings if it is a new pool, or the history and current surface if it is a re-line.
  • Photographs of the walls, floor, steps, gutters or skimmers and every fitting.
  • The markings it needs: lanes, targets, depth or safety marks.
  • The window you have: when the pool can close and when it has to reopen.

What you get back

  • Within three days, a reply saying when the estimate will be ready.
  • An estimate prepared by us after we review the pool, not generated from a square footage.
  • A membrane chosen for the project from RENOLIT, Poolside by CGT or SOPREMA.
  • Our RENOLIT ALKORPLAN certification, SOPREMAPOOL training, WHMIS 2015 and WSIB Ontario papers, all on the Documents page.

What pool operators and builders ask us

Can lane lines and floor targets be part of the membrane?

Yes. They are cut from membrane in a dark colour and welded into the light membrane of the floor and walls, so they are part of the same surface and are not painted on.

Do you work as a subcontractor on a pool company's project?

In most cases, yes. We work as subcontractors for pool companies, and several of them have already invited us back for multiple projects.

Can a commercial pool that is open most of the year be re-lined?

A re-line is the same membrane work as a new pool, done over the existing shell, so it can be planned around a closing window. Tell us the dates when you send the pool's details and we will tell you when the estimate will be ready.

Tell us about your pool

Every estimate is prepared by us, after we have reviewed the pool. Send photographs if you have them.
